Good Ad

Bad Ad

For this assignment I wanted to focus on the car buying audience. There are many differences between these two car ads.

In the first ad the car itself is popping out of the picture. The background complements the color of the car making the car pop. The text at the bottom of the page is all the same. There's no random change of font anywhere. The contrast of the picture also makes the car more appealing to the eye. We have a source of light casting in from the right side of the ad highlighting the driver side of the car. The specs for the car are smaller at the bottom of the page out of the way of the actual car.

The second ad is a little bit of a disaster. First off, there is no background. There is only a white blank canvas. When they said engineering made fun they literally drew all over the car. I get where they were trying to go with this, but I feel like it doesn't work very well. I want to see the car I am looking to buy, not a bunch of different squiggled colors all over it. The car is not the highlight of the ad as much as it should be. The font is quite big because the seller wants the audience to know their slogan and also about the warranty of the car.

Contrast, Balance, Harmony

This photo was taken by myself earlier this year. The picture is of my uncle's prized Red Stag he shot down in New Zealand. For many years I have wanted to see what a Red Stag looked like because they are regional and are mainly located in New Zealand which is a part of the world that I have not been to. I obviously looked at multiple pictures of the Red Stag when it still had its body, but this picture spoke to me and holds a place in my heart. I was able to help my uncle hang this bad boy on the wall, which was not an easy task by no means. The part that you see here weighed easily over 200 pounds alone.
I love the lighting in the photo it really highlights the girth of the Red Stag. The light on the ceiling really reflects just how massive the Red Stag is hanging on the wall. While the shadow reflecting off of the Stag shows just how much it juts out of the wall. The left side of the photo is darker and very heavy with shadows, while the right side is very bright and white. The stag itself is covered in both shadow and direct light.
The Stag is hung in the center of the room where the ceiling peaks and is the highest. The picture is definitely asymmetrical because of the way the head turns and also because of how different both sides of the antlers are. Although some think that antlers are similar on both sides that is most always not the case. The difference gives the stag its character.
I find harmony in the picture because I know how much hard work it took in order to get the stag mounted on the wall. When I look at this picture I think back to not only when I hung it on the wall, but all the great stories that came from getting it to where it is now. A lot of people will not find harmony in this picture the way that I do. Overall I love the way the picture came together and again I am not a professional photographer.
