Contrast, Balance, Harmony

This photo was taken by myself earlier this year. The picture is of my uncle's prized Red Stag he shot down in New Zealand. For many years I have wanted to see what a Red Stag looked like because they are regional and are mainly located in New Zealand which is a part of the world that I have not been to. I obviously looked at multiple pictures of the Red Stag when it still had its body, but this picture spoke to me and holds a place in my heart. I was able to help my uncle hang this bad boy on the wall, which was not an easy task by no means. The part that you see here weighed easily over 200 pounds alone.
I love the lighting in the photo it really highlights the girth of the Red Stag. The light on the ceiling really reflects just how massive the Red Stag is hanging on the wall. While the shadow reflecting off of the Stag shows just how much it juts out of the wall. The left side of the photo is darker and very heavy with shadows, while the right side is very bright and white. The stag itself is covered in both shadow and direct light.
The Stag is hung in the center of the room where the ceiling peaks and is the highest. The picture is definitely asymmetrical because of the way the head turns and also because of how different both sides of the antlers are. Although some think that antlers are similar on both sides that is most always not the case. The difference gives the stag its character.
I find harmony in the picture because I know how much hard work it took in order to get the stag mounted on the wall. When I look at this picture I think back to not only when I hung it on the wall, but all the great stories that came from getting it to where it is now. A lot of people will not find harmony in this picture the way that I do. Overall I love the way the picture came together and again I am not a professional photographer.
